What is the cost?

The total cost of changing your name depends on your reason and how far through the process you may already be.  First, you need a certificate form the Registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages.  The cost varies depending on what documents you need and what state you live in.

Marriage & Divorce/Separation Name Change

A marriage certificate costs anywhere from $25 to $60, depending on what state you apply in.  If reverting to name you held before marriage you need your marriage and birth certificate.  For current certificate costs visit the Registry website for the state where your event took place.

If you are divorced you would have been issued with a Divorce Order by the court.  You do not need any other documents.

An Easy Name Change personalised kit costs $29.95 (email) or $69.95 (by post).

A replacement passport with the same expiry date is free if you apply within 12 months of your marriage or divorce.  If your passport is close to expiring or you don't qualify for a free replacement a standard passport will set you back around $160.

The average person usually doesn't incur any further charges, however each organisation sets their own policy with name change.  Although it is rare, you may have a membership card with an organisation that charges replacement fees, or you may need a solicitor to certify a document.  These requirements and fees are at each organisation's own discretion and are beyond the control of Easy Name Change.

Legal Name Change

If you hold a passport you are unable to use it once your application has been successful.  A new standard passport will cost $226.  No concessions are given regardless of the validity of your previous passport.
