Medicare benefits can be paid to either husband or wife if both names are on the same Medicare card. Changing the name on your Medicare card should be done in person if you are putting both names, plus any children, on the same card.  If you are happy to have separate cards you can update your Medicare card by mail.

If applying to update the name on your own card by post you will need a copy of your current Medicare card and a certified copy of your wedding certificate.  Otherwise you can visit a Medicare office in person.  See the full list of Medicare offices.
