How to Change Names on Facebook

What name should I use?

Facebook policy requests that only your real name is used so that people always know who they are connecting with. Facebook allows the use of nicknames, but not titles (including professional, military, honorary or religious). You’re not allowed to add punctuation to your name.

How do I change my Facebook name?

You can change the name that appears on your Facebook profile, but it should be the same as your legal name. Log into your Facebook account and follow these steps;

  1. Click the account menu (triangle drop down button) from the top right corner on any Facebook page.
  2. Click ‘Account Settings’
  3. Click ‘edit’ next to the name field
  4. Type in your new name
  5. Click save

Can I have two Facebook names?

Yes, you can list an alternate name on your account, such as your maiden name or nickname. Both your standard and alternate names can be displayed on your profile. Just follow these steps:

  1. Click the account menu (triangle drop down button) from the top right corner on any Facebook page.
  2. Click ‘Account Settings’
  3. Next to the name field, click ‘edit’
  4. Enter your alternate name
  5. If you want the name to appear to other Facebook users, check ‘Include this on my profile’

Name changes to your Facebook account may take up to 24 hours to be published.
