If you’re a customer with BBVA bank you’ll need to attend a bank location in person with updated photo ID and your original proof of name change, such as a marriage certificate or court order. Because you need to present updated photo ID, there’s a few steps you need to follow first.
No matter what your reason for changing names, take your proof of name change, current photo ID (in your previous name) and the SSA name change form in person to any SSA location. Your name change is processed on the spot, but you need to wait 2-3 days for your updated SSA record to be visible to other agencies. Next, visit the DMV to get an updated driver’s license or non-driver ID card. Only then can you go onto update BBVA and any other banks.’
Once your name change has been processed by BBVA, allow a few weeks for new checkbooks and plastic cards to be issued. While you wait, you can go onto change names with all other companies.
