First Republic Bank

Banking Name Change Procedure

Changing names with First Republic Bank? Like most banks, you’ll need to attend any branch in person. Take your original proof of name change, such as your marriage certificate, divorce decree or court order. You also need to take an updated photo ID, so be sure to update the name on your driver’s license or non-driver ID card.

What orders should I change names in?

Once you have proof of your name change, you’re ready to update your records! No matter what your reason for changing names, send in the SSA name change form, which is included in your kit, to update Social Security first. You can only change names with the DMV once you have proof that the SSA has changed your name. That’s because your state DMV will only allow a name that matches what is on file with the SSA. Once you have new photo ID you can go onto change records everywhere else. It’s a good idea to prioritize financial institutions as you may experience issues cashing checks in a name that’s different from your account.
