Before you can apply for a name change with American Express
No matter if your new name is due to marriage, divorce or a legal name change, you will need to first update your name with the SSA. Send in the SSA name change form, provided in your Easy Name Change pack. Once you receive confirmation that the SSA has processed your name change then attend your state DMV in person to update your driver or non-driver photo ID card. If your state DMV has a name change form we provide it in your kit.
Next, complete the AMEX name change form
There are 2 ways you can update your name with Amex. The easiest is to log into your Amex account and navigate to your profile. Click ‘edit’ alongside your name and complete the name change form. Upload a copy of your updated photo ID.
What about all other companies?
Here’s where it can get time-consuming as no records are linked and each company has a different process or form. You’ll no doubt have more forms to send in as well as letters and emails. Some companies will need you to log into your profile and send a secure message or locate hard-to-find name change portals. Most banks need you to visit a branch in person. Save hours figuring out what goes where with our name change kit! Click the button below to get step-by-step instructions for all your chosen companies. Can I do this myself?
Yes! You can manage your own name change but it takes time to contact each company, verify their name change process then complete a bunch of forms. You’ll also need to write a few letters and emails. Don’t forget to ask what proof to send in! Get post and email addresses. Allow about 20 minutes per company. If you have 24 companies to update it takes 8 hours! Use our FREE checklist builder so you don’t miss any companies. It’s a handy way of knowing which companies to contact and keeping track of your progress.
